The Happiness Project was one of the books I was planning to read this summer. Well, it’s December, so you can guess how that went. But still, I though it would be a good idea to share my thoughts.

The book is about the author, Gretchen Rubin, who has dedicated a whole year to her project. Each month has a different theme and each theme has a few action points. She describes her experiences and combines it with research that she has done on the subject. I figured, with the new year around the corner I would share my thoughts on whether you should make the resolutions to read it!

Book review: The Happiness Project

First, I like to mention that it took me a while to read it, because of the way it’s written. Not that it’s badly written, it’s actually really easy to read through. But the concept of a theme each month and then divided into action points made it a little difficult. To me, it seemed like she did one thing after the other thing, but in reality she did it at the same time. It makes it easier to read, but more difficult to understand how the reader can implement it in their own lives, and isn’t that also the idea of the book?

It really is more of a telling of what happened in one year. A lot of personal experience with some research. Though the idea of a happiness project is planted in the reader’s head, I don’t think that she gives a lot of tips on how to do it yourself. But then again, happiness is very personal. My themes and action points can differ entirely from hers.

Considering the difficulty of the subject, I think this book is good enough to give you some ideas. It doesn’t give you a how-to, so don’t expect that. Would I recommend it? It really depends on the person. I do realize that lately I’ve said: I just read in a book that…, referring to The Happiness Project. So I guess it did get stuck in my head which is a good thing?
