Books turned into movies & my honest opinion about them
Hey beautiful people! March, eh? It’s been a tough month for me so far. In short, I had a procedure and am still in recovery. Good thing about that? I can read and bingewatch Netflix a LOT! That brought me to the idea of giving my opinion about books turned into movies.
Of course there are the obvious one, like Harry Potter, Twilight and the Hunger Games. Those are not on the list because… well… I haven’t read those books and I haven’t seen every movie. I have a different taste, okay.
Books turned into movies that I loved ❤
The Fault In Our Stars by John Green
I cried when I read the book and I thought since I know the story, I wouldn’t cry during the movie. Boy was I wrong. And I actually saw this one at the movies with a friend and the whole room was balling. Such a heartbreaking story that was well written and well played.

The Best Of Me by Nicholas Sparks
I think I have read every Nicholas Sparks novel, except for The Notebook (weird right?). The Best Of Me was already such a good book and when the movie came out, I dragged my sister with me to the theater. We sobbed and every time I watch the movie since then, I sob again. In my opinion the best one of all the books and movies from him!
If I Stay by Gayle Forman
Another book and movie that made me cry. I feel like there’s a theme haha. Honestly though, when I feel so deeply that it makes me cry, it’s just a sign that it is THAT good. And If I Stay was that good. Make sure to read the follow-up Where She Went too, just to have your heart break a little more. Don’t we all want that? It’s just me? Oh, okay.
Books turned into movies that I… didn’t particularly love 💔
All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven
Now, before everyone gets angry at me, I want to say: I loved the book! You can read all about it in my review. It gave me all the feels and as we established above, I love getting my heart broken. So my hopes were high for the movie and when it was FINALLY here, it was just… a downer. I do think that it is important that movies like this are made. Movies that shine a light on mental health issues, and especially teenagers with mental health issue. I just thought the movie missed some depth that the book did have.

How To Deal by Sarah Dessen
It breaks my heart to put one of my all time favorite writers in here. Every time I read one of her books I thought: they should make a movie of this one! And then I found out they made a movie, but combined two Sarah Dessen novels. And the movie didn’t make sense to me anymore, probably because I was so confused.

Let It Snow by John Green, Maureen Johnson and Lauren Myracle
I never before read an anthology, but I was pleasantly surprised! I picked it up in December, because I knew the movie was coming to Netflix soon, so I watched it right after I read it. The movie does not follow the exact stories (which they usually don’t) and it bothered me a lot. That’s probably the biggest reason why I didn’t like the movie.
Over to you! Have you read a book and watched a movie that you loved or didn’t? Is it a different one than one in this list? Did you read and watch the ones in this list? What did you think about them?

Hey there!

This post reminded me that I’m really bad at watching movies. I’ve read almost all of these books, but I haven’t seen any of the movies.
Well, I would definitely recommend watching the first three, maybe not the other ones 😉
Thank you for stopping by!
I… uhhh, haven’t read any of these books or watched any of these movies, haha 😅 to be fair, I don’t watch a lot of movies though, and I haven’t read a lot of books that have been adapted 🤔 I truly had so much fun reading this post though! I’m happy that you weren’t disappointed in the adaptations of The Fault in Our Stars, The Best of Me, and If I Stay!
A book that I’ve been meaning to read for so long is Anne of Green Gables! Though I know it has some movie adaptations, I’m only interested in the TV show Anne With An E. I plan on watching it as soon as I finish reading the book! I’ve seen some snippets of the show, and it looks so good 😍
Thank you so much!! ❤
I haven´t read Anne of Green Gables and have never watched the movie adaption OR the show, so I guess I still have some reading and watching to do too!
Great post! I love reading books and then watching the movies afterward to see how they live up. I really liked both The Fault in Our Stars book and movie. I want to watch All the Bright Places, but I haven’t read the book yet. Bummer that you ended up not loving it. I didn’t even know there was a Let It Snow movie! I really liked the book.
Thank you so much!! ❤
I do too, I make sure that I read the book first though. All The Bright Places movie wasn´t bad… I just expected it to be a whole lot better because the book was amazing. If you read the book and watch the movie, I hope you´ll like it!
Yes! It came out in December on Netflix.

I’m sending you all the love for your recovery and hope it’s going okay <3
I love this post! I feel like movie adaptations are either a hit or miss for me. I really liked the TFIOS adaptation, as well and I liked Let It Snow, but I think that's because I didn't recall the book's stories, AT ALL, haha 🙂
Thank you! <3 I'm doing a lot better!
Yes, definitely! I'm glad you liked them 🙂 And I learned that you should not watch the movie RIGHT after you finished the books, I think I would like the movie a whole lot better!
